How Did I Get Here?

Growing up I had lots of wonders and questions on what I would want to be when I grow up. When I was younger I decided to start babysitting but that was not what got me into the field that I am in right now. Going into grade 12 I had no idea on what I wanted to do and I had no idea what I wanted my career to be. In grade 12, as the year came close to an end and I had to apply to college. I applied and obtained acceptance into Seneca for the Paralegal Program and the plan was to get into Law. It was not until the summer of 2015 where everything changed and I decided that law was not the program for me. In the summer of 2015, I had an opportunity to participate in Building Blocks for Kindergarten (BBFK) with @Michelle.K.Lee and @KindieKorner. The opportunity to participate in this experience really opened my eyes to the field of Early Childhood Education. In August I applied to Seneca for Early Childhood Education but I was waitlisted, which left me wondering will I be able to get in? Or will I have to continue in law? Only three days later, I got an email from Seneca Admissions offering me a spot in the Early Childhood Education program. When September started I found myself back at Moraine Hills Public School within York Region District School Board in the Full-Day Kindergarten (FDK) program. I had a new opportunity to co-teach with @KindieKorner @Educate.Invest.Inspire where I gained exposure and knowledge of play-based learning. I also had the opportunity to create and implement lessons, co-teach, and conduct assessments with our students. During the busy school year I found myself at Seneca, at my Seneca placement, and volunteering regularly at Moraine Hills, getting as much exposure and experience as I could within the field of Early Childhood Education and Teaching. At first, when I entered the field of Early Childhood Education, my end goal was to become a DECE for the York Region School Board, but after being given the opportunity to help around the classroom my goals have changed. My final end goal is to become a Kindergarten Teacher. Stay tuned as my journey continues…
